If you live in Sector 75 or anywhere in Sectors 70 to 79, the weight on a buyer's scale can read less than your jewellery weighed at home. The reason is that stones, meena, clasps, filler and dirt are removed or discounted before weighing, and good gold buyers let you watch that step. We are Cash for Gold - Sona Do Paise Lo, in Noida Extension (Greater Noida West), and our pickups cover Delhi NCR.

Why does a 10 gram set read 8.4 on the scale?

Your home scale, or the jeweller's old slip, weighs the whole piece. A buyer pays only for the gold in it.

Take a set that weighs 10 grams as a whole. Say it has a few coloured stones, some meena on the pendant, and steel springs in the earring backs. Once those come off, the gold left may weigh 8.4 grams. The numbers here are only an example. Your set will differ.

Nothing was taken from you. The 1.6 grams were never gold. They were part of what you carried in, not part of what you are selling.

This is the moment where most arguments start. A seller sees "10" on a bill from years ago and "8.4" on the counter, and feels cheated. If nobody explains the gap, that feeling is reasonable. So we explain it before the scale is switched on.

What actually gets taken off before weighing?

Look at your own pieces and you will find most of these:

  • Stones. Kundan, polki, coloured and white stones are set in gold. We do not buy stones, so they are removed. Only the gold is weighed.
  • Meena. The coloured enamel on bangles, pendants and temple sets. It adds weight but is not gold.
  • Clasps and springs. Gold clasps stay in. Steel or base-metal springs, screws and pins inside them do not.
  • Filler (lac). Hollow bangles and chains are often packed with lac to hold their shape. It sits inside the piece and is not gold.
  • Solder and dirt. Years of oil, powder and skin build up in the grooves of a chain or a jhumka. Non-gold solder residue sits in the joins.

For a longer look at the parts that are not gold, read Stones, meena and clasps: the parts that are not gold.

How can you watch the weighing yourself?

Ask any of the gold buyers you speak to for these steps. We do them in front of you:

  1. We weigh the piece as you brought it. You see the number.
  2. If stones, meena or non-gold parts are there, they are taken off, or allowed for, while you watch. You can pick them up and look.
  3. The gold is weighed again. That is the weight we work from.
  4. We test purity on a karatmeter while you watch. The reading is shown to you.
  5. The weight, the purity and the day's rate are written down, and the figure for your piece is worked out from them.

If a buyer wants to take your gold into another room, or will not show you the scale display, you can say no. Take your time. Nothing has to happen today.

How the karatmeter reading is taken covers step 4 in full. The weighing itself is explained in How your gold is weighed.

What do sellers in Sectors 70 to 79 usually bring?

Sectors 70 to 79 are mostly society towers, not markets, and there are few gold shops of their own. Many sellers here are salaried and selling for the first time. A typical bag holds a chain, a few bangles or a ring that is no longer worn, sometimes with a pendant that has stones or meena on it.

Those mixed pieces are where the gap between home weight and scale weight is widest. A plain chain loses almost nothing. A stone-set pendant or a meena bangle loses more. If you can, put the plain pieces and the decorated ones in separate pouches. You will see exactly which ones changed weight.

If you are not sure what you have, the Sector 75, Noida page lists how selling works for your area. Our guide Why the weight on the buyer's scale is less than you expected goes further on the same question.

Should you bring it to the counter or ask for a pickup?

Both are possible from Sector 75 and the sectors around it.

Pickup suits you if you are carrying several pieces, are not comfortable travelling with gold, or the day is full. A pickup here is usually the same morning or afternoon. The weighing and testing happen at your door, with the same steps as above. Anything you do not like, you can stop and keep your gold.

The counter suits you if you want to see the shop first and ask questions in person. It is about 9 km by road, 20 to 30 minutes outside peak (map estimate). The route is Sector 71 crossing, Kisan Chowk, Gaur Chowk, then Sector 16B.

Neither route changes the weighing. What changes is where you stand while it happens. For safe carrying, see Carrying gold safely when you go to sell it.

How do you compare gold buyers on weight alone?

You do not need to understand every number. You need to check three things:

  • Can you see the scale display during every weighing?
  • Is the weight of the stones or other parts shown separately, not hidden in a total?
  • Will they write the weight down before they state a price?

If a buyer will not do all three, that tells you what you need to know. Our guide on comparing three quotes in one afternoon shows how to put the answers side by side.

If you want to ask before you go anywhere, call or WhatsApp 9217742656 with a photo of the piece. We will tell you what the weighing will involve. The final figure is worked out only once the gold is tested in front of you.

Questions people ask

Why is the weight at a gold buyer less than my bill says? The bill weighs the whole piece, including stones, meena and non-gold parts. The buyer weighs only the gold that is left once those are removed.

Can I watch my gold being weighed? Yes. At our counter and at a pickup, you see the scale display for every weighing, and you can handle the removed parts.

Do you pay for stones or meena? No. We buy gold only. Stones and enamel are taken off and returned to you, and only the gold is weighed and paid for.
