Call 9217742656WhatsAppYes, it can be safe to sell gold to a buyer who comes to your home. It is safe only if the visit runs a certain way. If a gold buyer near me skips any of the steps below, do not hand over anything, and ask them to leave. This post describes the safe shape of a visit, so you can judge any buyer, including us.
We are Cash for Gold - Sona Do Paise Lo, in Noida Extension (Greater Noida West), and our pickups cover Delhi NCR. We hold ourselves to the same list, and you can check us against it.
Is it safe to sell gold to a buyer who comes to your home?
The risk is not that the buyer comes to your home. The risk is that your gold changes hands before anything has been proved to you. At a shop, the counter, the scale and the other customers make it harder to cheat. At home, you have to supply that order yourself.
So the question to ask is not "is a home visit safe". Ask whether this visit runs in the right order. The right order is:
- Identity is shown, both ways.
- Your gold is tested on your table.
- The price is agreed before anything is handed over.
- You are paid before the buyer leaves.
If you want to compare this with going to a shop, read pickup or the counter, and how to decide.
What should a gold buyer show you before you open the door?
Before the visit, ask on the phone or WhatsApp for the buyer's name, the shop's address and a way to confirm that the shop exists. A real shop has a real address you can look up.
When the person arrives, ask to see their photo ID. Look at the face, not just the card. Note the name and match it to the name you were given on the phone. A different person turning up is a reason to stop.
Then the buyer will ask for yours. This is normal, and it protects you as well. A buyer who does not ask for your photo ID, and does not note down who sold the gold, is a buyer who is not keeping a record. Records are what you need if a question comes up later. We explain why in why a gold buyer asks for your photo ID.
ID shown both ways is the first step. If the buyer will not show theirs, the visit ends there.
Should the gold be tested at your own table?
Yes. Your gold should never leave your sight to be tested. The test should happen on your table, in your room, while you watch.
A safe test looks like this:
- The buyer weighs the gold on a scale. You see the number on the display.
- The buyer takes a karatmeter reading. You see the reading.
- If the gold is in several pieces, each piece is read separately.
- Nothing goes into a bag, a pocket or another room until you have agreed what happens next.
Warning signs: "I will test it at the shop and call you." "Give me a minute, I will check it in the car." Any test that happens where you cannot see it is not a test you can verify.
You do not need to understand the machine. You only need to see the weight and the reading with your own eyes, and ask what each number means. We show how a reading is taken in how a karatmeter reading is taken, step by step.
If the reading comes out lower than the stamp on the piece, that is not automatically a trick. Stamps and readings can differ. Read what happens if your gold tests lower than the stamp says before you decide.
How should the price be agreed?
The price should be agreed after the test, and before anything is handed over. Three numbers decide it: the weight, the purity reading and the rate used. A good buyer names all three and tells you how the figure was worked out. The buyer should tell you the rate they are using, and you can compare it with the one on our gold rate page.
Be careful with these:
- A price given on the phone that changes at your door with no clear reason.
- A buyer who says "this is the final price" and cannot name the rate.
- Pressure to decide quickly. Nothing has to happen today. You can say no, put the gold back in its box, and think about it overnight.
It is fair to say no after hearing a price. A good buyer will not argue. If you want a second quote first, see how to compare three quotes in one afternoon.
When should you be paid?
Before the buyer leaves with your gold, and not after. Never accept "I will send the money tomorrow", "my partner will bring it", or "the payment is on its way" while your gold is already in their bag.
If the payment is in cash, count it in front of the buyer. If it is a bank transfer, check your own banking app, not the buyer's phone screen. A screenshot is not money. Wait until the amount shows in your account.
Only after the money is in your hand or your account does the gold go with the buyer. We explain the order further in how you get paid, and how fast.
Is a gold buyer near me safer at a shop or at home?
Both can be safe. Both can be unsafe. A shop gives you a fixed address and other people nearby. A home visit gives you privacy and no travel with your jewellery, which matters if you are carrying a lot or if someone in the family cannot go out.
When you search for a gold buyer near me, you will see both kinds of listing. The map pin does not tell you how the visit runs. We look at that in what the five pins on the map do not tell you.
A few practical points if you choose a home visit:
- Have another adult at home if you can.
- Pick a time in daylight.
- Keep only the gold you plan to sell on the table. Keep the rest away.
- Do not share your address on a public post. Share it only with the buyer you chose.
If you would rather not have anyone visit, you can bring the gold to us. The trip is described in cash for gold in Greater Noida West: what the trip to the counter is like. Our Noida Extension page has the address and timings. If you are in Noida proper, see the Noida page.
What if the visit starts going wrong?
You can stop at any step. You do not owe the buyer your gold, an explanation or a reason.
If something feels wrong, say "I will think about it" and ask the buyer to leave. If the buyer pushes, call someone you know, and call the police on 112 if you feel unsafe. Do not argue. The gold stays with you.
The step to watch most is the moment before the payment. Do not let the gold leave your table until the money has arrived.
Questions people ask
Is it safe to sell gold to someone who comes to my house? It is safe if the buyer shows photo ID, tests your gold in front of you, agrees the price before taking anything, and pays before leaving. If any one of these is missing, do not hand over the gold.
How do I know a gold buyer near me is genuine? Ask for the shop address, the buyer's photo ID, and a visible test on your own table. A genuine buyer answers all three without difficulty and lets you say no.
Can I get a home visit in Delhi NCR from you? Yes. Our pickups cover Delhi NCR from Noida Extension. Call or WhatsApp 9217742656 to ask what a visit to your area involves before you decide.
Should I let the buyer take my gold to test it elsewhere? No. The test, weighing and price should all happen where you can see them. Gold that leaves your sight before payment is gold you cannot verify.
