A 10 gram set can read 8.4 grams at the counter because stones, meena (enamel), clasps, solder and dirt are not gold, and they come off before the gold is weighed. For a gold sell in Noida Extension, the check is simple: ask to see each part removed and the gold weighed on a scale that faces you. We are Cash for gold - Sona Do Paise Lo, at Shop 25, French Arcade, Sector 16B, Greater Noida West, and our pickups cover Delhi NCR.

Gold sell in Noida Extension: why does the weight read less?

The weight on your bill of purchase or your family's memory is the weight of the whole piece. The buyer pays for the gold in it. Those are two different numbers.

Take a necklace set sold as 10 grams. It may carry:

  • coloured stones or pearl-like beads set in the metal
  • meena, the enamel colour on the back of kundan and Rajasthani work
  • a clasp or lock with a steel spring inside
  • lac (a filling) inside hollow bangles and some jhumkas
  • solder at old repair joints
  • years of dust, oil and powder in the carving

None of that is gold. Together it can take a set from 10 grams on the family scale to 8.4 grams of gold. That figure is an example, not a promise. Your own set could lose more or less, depending on how it is made.

What exactly comes off before weighing?

Stones and beads. We do not buy stones. They are removed from the setting, and only the metal is weighed.

Meena. Enamel cannot be melted into the gold count. Heavily enamelled pieces, common in wedding sets, lose the most.

Clasps with springs. The spring inside a lock is steel. Often the clasp is a separate part, and we check it on its own.

Solder. A chain repaired twice has extra joins. Solder is a lower-purity alloy, so it can be tested separately from the main piece.

Dirt. A ring worn for twenty years sits heavier with grime than it looks.

If a part cannot be separated by hand, we say so and show you the reading for the piece as it is. The karatmeter then tests the metal itself, and you see the number on the screen. For the full step-by-step, see how a karatmeter reading is taken. The parts that are not gold are covered in stones, meena and clasps.

How do I watch it happen at the counter?

The scale faces you. That is the whole point of the arrangement. Here is what to do:

  1. Before you leave home, weigh nothing and decide nothing. Just note what the piece weighed in your papers, if you have any.
  2. Place the whole piece on the scale and read the number yourself.
  3. Ask which parts are being taken off, and watch each one come off.
  4. Ask for the gold-only weight, then read it from the screen, not from our mouths.
  5. Ask for the karatmeter reading, which gives the purity of the metal.

The gold sell is only fair if you can follow each of these numbers. If a buyer turns the scale away, takes your gold into a back room, or says "it is already weighed", that is the moment to stop and pick the gold up again. More on this in the questions to ask before you hand over your gold.

Nothing is decided until you say yes. You can take the gold back after weighing. Nothing has to happen today.

What do people in Gaur City and Sector 16 usually bring?

In and around Gaur City 1 and 2, Gaur Chowk (Char Murti), Ek Murti Chowk and the Amrapali societies, the gold that arrives is often wedding jewellery: heavy sets with stones and meena, and bangles with lac inside. Those are the pieces where the gap between family weight and gold weight is widest.

Sellers from Sector 1, Sector 4, Sector 16, 16B, 16C, Tech Zone 4, Bisrakh Road, Kisan Chowk, Patwari and Vaidpura more often bring plain chains, rings and single earrings, where the gap is small. A plain 22 karat chain loses almost nothing except a little dirt.

Expect the gap to be larger the more colour and craftsmanship a piece has. A plain bangle will read close to what you remember. A kundan set will not.

Is the trip worth it, or should I ask for a pickup?

Most people here walk in or ride over in about ten to fifteen minutes (a map estimate). That includes Crossings Republik, just across the road. We are open 9 am to 10 pm, every day, so you can choose a quiet hour.

For a heavily set piece, I would suggest coming in. Watching stones and enamel come off is easier face to face, and the scale is right there. A pickup is the right call when you would rather not carry gold on the road, for example a large inherited set. Read carrying gold safely if you are unsure. Pickups follow the same steps: the scale is shown to you and you may refuse at any stage.

The Noida Extension page explains both routes, and the locality page has the details for your area. If you want to ask about a particular piece first, call or WhatsApp 9217742656 and describe it. We will tell you what usually comes off a piece like that.

What if I still think the weight is wrong?

Ask for the piece to be weighed again, in front of you. Ask for the removed parts to be shown. If you still disagree, take the gold back and try another shop. A second look costs you a short walk, and a second quote is a sensible step.

There is also a wider explanation in why the weight on the buyer's scale is less than you expected. Read it if you want the general case.

Most arguments about weight begin because nobody explained the gap before the scale came out. That is why we explain it first.

Questions people ask

Why does my gold weigh less at the shop than at home? The shop weighs only the gold. Stones, enamel, clasp springs, solder and dirt are taken off first, so the number is lower than the whole piece.

Can I watch the weighing when I sell gold? Yes. At our counter the scale faces you, and the karatmeter reading is shown on a screen. To ask about a piece first, call or WhatsApp 9217742656.

Do you buy the stones on my jewellery? No. We buy gold only. Stones are removed and returned to you with the piece, and only the metal is weighed.
