4. Your gold is weighed in front of you. Watch the scale. The reading may be lower than you expected; there are usually plain reasons, covered in why the weight is less than you expected.

6. You are given the figure and how it was worked out. Weight, purity and the day's rate are the three inputs. Ask to see each one.
7. You decide. If the figure does not suit you, you say no and keep your gold. Nothing is owed for saying no.

Is a pickup as fair as the counter?

It should be, and you can check. The same three things should happen in your living room as at the counter: the weighing, the karatmeter test and the explanation of the figure, all done where you can see them.
