How to check the gold rate properly before you sell

Selling gold in Greater Noida West? Ask us about your piece before you decide.
Call 9217742656WhatsAppCheck the 24 karat rate, not the 22 karat figure some sites print, and check it once a day rather than every hour. The number that makes the news is a bulk benchmark for pure, 999 fine gold traded in large quantities, not a price for your specific piece. golddocashlo.com posts the day's reference rate at /gold-rate-today, taken from the IBJA, so you have one fixed number to start from before you come in. What your jewellery is actually worth is worked out at the counter, after it is weighed and tested in front of you.
If you are in Noida Extension or Greater Noida West, or anywhere in Delhi NCR where we do pickups, this is the number to glance at before you leave the house, not a promise of what you will be paid.
Which gold rate should I actually look at?
There are usually two numbers floating around: the 24 karat rate and the 22 karat rate. The 24 karat figure is the one that gets quoted in the news and on bullion sites, because it tracks fine, near-pure gold. Almost no jewellery is 24 karat. Most Indian gold jewellery, the 916 hallmark pieces, is 22 karat, alloyed with a little copper or silver for strength. A 22 karat rate, where you see one, is simply the 24 karat number scaled down for purity, not a separate market.
For checking purposes, the 24 karat figure on /gold-rate-today is the steadier reference. It updates once a day, so it will not match a live bullion ticker you see somewhere else, and that is by design. Gold does not need to be timed to the hour when you are selling old jewellery.
Why do different websites show different rates for the same day?
A few reasons, and none of them mean someone is lying to you:
- Different sources. Some sites pull from the IBJA reference, some from a local bullion association, some from a jeweller's own display rate.
- Different update times. A rate posted at 9 am and one posted at 6 pm on a volatile day can genuinely differ.
- Different inclusions. A few sites quote a rate that already assumes GST or a making charge folded in, others quote it clean.
- Rounding and city variation. Local associations round differently, and dealer costs vary slightly between cities, which is also why you may see Noida and Delhi rates printed separately. We cover that comparison in Why the gold rate in Noida and Delhi are quoted differently.
None of this changes what happens to your gold. It changes which number you see on a screen. What matters more is understanding which figure a site is actually showing you, which is why we point to one fixed source rather than asking you to compare five tabs.
Why is the rate in the news not what a shop pays for old gold?
The headline rate is a benchmark for gold traded in bulk, at full purity, between dealers. Your jewellery is a finished object: it has alloy mixed in, it may have solder or stones, it has been worn and weighed at a particular moment on a particular scale. A buyer starts from that day's rate and then applies the purity of your specific piece, the weight on the scale, and the shop's own terms, tested in front of you on a karatmeter before any number is discussed. We have written about this gap in full in Why the gold rate in the news is not what you get paid, and in What 916 means on your jewellery, and how to read the other marks if you want to understand purity marks before you come in.
We will not print a rupee figure for your piece here, because there isn't one until it is actually tested. Anyone who quotes you an exact payout before seeing your gold is guessing.
Where do I check today's rate before I come in?
/gold-rate-today is updated once a day from the IBJA reference, and it is the same number we start from at the counter. Read more on how that daily number is arrived at in How today's gold rate in Noida is set, and where to check it. If you would rather have it explained for your exact piece, purana sona included, call or WhatsApp 9217742656 and we can walk you through what the rate means for what you are holding, before you decide anything.
Questions people ask
Why is the gold rate different on different websites? Because each site pulls from a different source, updates at a different time of day, and some fold in GST or making charges while others do not. The rate itself has not changed, only how it is being shown to you.
Is the rate in the newspaper the price I will get for my jewellery? No. That figure is a 24 karat bulk benchmark. What you are paid depends on your gold's tested purity and weight, worked out at the counter, not on the headline number alone.
Where can I check a reliable daily gold rate before I sell? /gold-rate-today is updated once a day from the IBJA reference, which is the same starting point we use when we test your gold.
