Stones, meena, clasps, solder and dirt come off first, so a set of 10 grams on your kitchen scale can read about 8.4 at the counter. At Cash for Gold - Sona Do Paise Lo, Shop 25, French Arcade, Sector 16B, Greater Noida West, the scale faces you, so you can watch each part come off. Pickups cover Delhi NCR.
Why does the gold weight read less at gold buyers in Noida Extension?
Because a jewellery piece is not all gold. A necklace set carries other material that a buyer cannot pay gold value for. Your home scale weighs all of it together. The counter scale weighs only what is gold.
The gap is not a deduction from the gold. It is the weight of things that were never gold. A 10 gram set that reads 8.4 has 1.6 grams of stone, enamel, thread, lac, dirt and fittings in it.
The gap can surprise you, and that is where most arguments start. We would rather you know about it before you walk in. Why the weight on the buyer's scale is less than you expected covers the general case. This post is about what sellers in Noida Extension bring, and how to check the process yourself.
What comes off before the gold is weighed?
Five things, in the order they usually come off:
- Stones. Kundan, polki, glass and coloured stones are set in gold but are not gold. We do not buy stones. They are taken out, or their weight is allowed for.
- Meena. The coloured enamel on the back of many wedding sets is a coating, not metal. It adds weight and none of it is gold.
- Clasps and fittings. Springs, hooks and screw backs are often made of steel or brass. They come off, or their weight is removed.
- Solder. Old repairs leave a joint filled with solder. It has a lower gold content than the piece around it, so it is cut out and tested separately.
- Dirt. Years of oil, powder and skin settle into the grooves of a chain or bangle. It is cleaned away or allowed for.
For the long version of the first three, read Stones, meena and clasps: the parts that are not gold. What matters for your decision is that none of these is hidden. Each one can be seen, and each one can be set on the scale by itself.
How do I watch it happen at the counter?
Ask for these steps. A buyer who is straight with you will not mind any of them.
- Weigh the whole piece first. The scale faces you. Note the number before anything is touched.
- Watch the parts come off. Stones and fittings are removed in front of you, not taken behind a door.
- Ask to see the removed parts weighed. Put them on the scale. The two numbers should add up to the first one.
- Watch the gold-only weight. This is the number that goes into the calculation.
- Watch the karatmeter reading. Purity is a separate input from weight. See how the karatmeter reading is taken.
Then the figure for your piece is worked out at the counter, once the weight and the purity are both on the screen. Nothing is decided before you have seen both numbers.
If you want to check it again, put the gold-only pieces back on the scale and read the number once more. Take your time. Nothing has to happen today.
Which Noida Extension pieces lose the most weight?
Some pieces lose more than others, and it helps to know before you carry them.
Heavy wedding sets, with stones and meena on one side and a thread or lac fill behind, show the biggest gap. Many families in Gaur City and Amrapali Dream Valley keep such sets from a wedding. A studded pendant or jhumka loses weight to its stones. Plain bangles and plain chains lose little, apart from dirt and a clasp.
A rough guide, in grams and not rupees:
- Plain chain or bangle: the gap is usually small. Dirt and the clasp are the main parts.
- Stone-set pendant, earrings or ring: the stones are part of the weight on your scale, so expect a visible gap.
- Meena or kundan necklace set: this is where a gap like 10 grams to 8.4 is most likely.
- Old, repaired pieces: solder joints add a small separate test.
If your piece is a single item, selling one chain, ring or bangle in Noida Extension walks through that case. For the same topic from the weight side, see Gold sell, Noida Extension: why the weight reads less.
Should I weigh my gold at home first?
Yes, and it costs nothing. A kitchen or jewellery scale is not exact, but it gives you a starting number.
Write down the weight of each piece on its own. Do not weigh the whole bag. Then work out which parts are stones, meena or fittings. If you expect a gap of a gram or two on a stone-set piece, you will not be surprised at the counter.
One more habit helps. Compare more than one of the gold buyers before you decide. Ask each of them how they handle stones and meena. A buyer who will not say how the non-gold weight is removed is telling you something. Five questions to ask any buyer before you hand over your gold gives you a list.
Should I ask for a pickup, or walk in?
For most people here, walking in is the better way to see this step. Most people in Gaur City 1 and 2, Gaur Chowk (Char Murti), Ek Murti Chowk, Sectors 1, 4 and 16, 16C, Tech Zone 4 and Crossings Republik reach the counter in about ten to fifteen minutes. That is a map estimate, so allow for your own road. The shop is open 9 am to 10 pm, every day.
A pickup is the right call if you would rather not carry gold on the road, for example a full wedding set from Amrapali Leisure Valley. You can still ask to see the same steps, and the same scale and karatmeter come to you. Selling gold without leaving home in Noida and Noida Extension explains how it works. If you are not sure which suits you, read pickup or the counter, and how to decide.
Nearby you will find mostly branches of Delhi chains along the Gaur City road. Visit one if you like. What we offer is the karatmeter screen and the scale facing you, so you can see the steps above. See the Noida Extension page for the full picture, or sell gold in Noida Extension if you are ready to plan the trip.
What if I still think the number is wrong?
Say so at the counter. You can ask for the piece to be weighed again, and for the removed parts to be shown. You can also take the gold away without selling it. There is no charge for asking.
If the gold-only weight still looks low to you, bring the piece to another buyer and ask the same questions. Comparing is normal. Should you get a second quote before you sell your gold? goes through how to do it well.
If you want to ask about a particular piece before you travel, call or WhatsApp 9217742656 and describe it: how many pieces, whether it has stones or meena, and any stamp you can see. We can tell you what will come off, and you can decide at your own pace. Directions are on the visit us page.
Questions people ask
Why does my gold weigh less at the shop than on my home scale? The shop weighs only the gold. Stones, meena, clasps, solder and dirt are not gold, so they are taken off or their weight is removed. A 10 gram set reading about 8.4 is a typical example.
Can I watch my gold being weighed? Yes. At our counter the scale faces you, and the removed parts can be weighed separately so you can check that the numbers add up.
Do gold buyers pay for the stones on my jewellery? No. Stones are not gold, and we do not buy them. The gold part is weighed, tested on the karatmeter and paid for. For questions about a specific piece, call or WhatsApp 9217742656.
